#5: TIE: Tomb Raider and Metal Gear Solid (7 million copies sold): Tomb Raider was originally released in 1996 and features the character known as Lara Croft, who is the Tomb Raider. The Guinness Book of World Records has recognizes Croft as the most successful human video game heroine in history. The games have been turned into two movies; “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider” and “Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life.” The entire series has sold over 35 million games worldwide. Metal Gear Solid was originally released in 1998. The game is based around a character named Solid Snake, a retired soldier.

This game was originally released in 1998 in North America. When the game was originally released it received incredible support from critics of the video game industry. The game received a 9.5 out of 10 from IGN, an 8.6 out of 10 from GameSpot, and a 5 out of 5 from PlayStation Magazine.
